I. Foreword
The Taipei
Municipal Institute for Animal Health (TMIAH) is able to provide the following
services.

A. |
Preventing and controlling animal infectious diseases as well as examining animal diseases that are a threat to individual and public health. |
|
B. |
Reinforcing
veterinary public health and zoonosis examinations to maintain the health of human
beings and animals. |
|
C. |
Providing pet
registration, stray animal sheltering, and animal corpse cremation to ensure animal health,
livestock products hygiene,
and effectively control animal sources. |
|
D. |
Reducing
the occurrence of stray animals in order to maintain environmental hygiene
and dwelling safety.

II.
Current situation
A.
Functions of the Three Sections
1.
Animal Diseases Prevention, Control, and Examination
|
(a) |
Animal infectious disease prevention and control: providing animal hygiene and
health care consultation, and domestic animal kennel disinfection within Taipei
city. |
|
(b) |
Rabies vaccine injection and other related matters. |
|
(c) |
Imported animals tracing quarantine:
handling 6-month post entry quarantine for imported animals after getting the importation permission
from the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine,
Council of Agriculture (http://www.baphiq.gov.tw). |

(d) |
Imported animal vaccine checks. |
|
(e) |
Zoonosis prevention and control:
providing examination services for seven major zoonoses,
including canine heartworm disease,
bovine / ovine tuberculosis, toxoplasmosis, Lyme disease,
Ehrlichiosis and rabies. |

(f) |
Animal disease identification:
handling of pathological, microbial, and clinical biochemical examinations
through animal body dissection
by the requests of the general public. |

Animal Protection

Promoting dogs and cats spaying/neutering: providing subsidies, NT$1500 for female and NT$800 for male animals, to owners. (Tel: 02-87897139) |

Pet registration: setting up pet registration centers (http://163.29.38.212/page/pagetype16-frame.jsp?first=yes&page=29&seltype=14&showType=) which provide rabies vaccine injection, microchip insertion, filing and recording registration data, as well as lost-and-found services. (Tel: 02-87897131) |

Wildlife animal rescue: setting up a wildlife rescue center for rescue cases pertaining to the Department of Economic Development (http://www.ed.taipei.gov.tw) which is in charge of wildlife conservation. |

III. Perspectives

A reception desk is set up for good service quality. |
|
B. |
Referring to Mayor's policy, we
encourage giving homes for stray animals. Various adoption activities, such as
campus-guarding dogs, have been promoted. We will keep on raising the adoption
rate at Taipei Animal Shelter and recruiting shelter volunteers. |

C. |
Online adoptable animal photographs and the latest animal news are updated all the time. |
|
D. |
Pet registration database will be established for effective management. |
